Emblematic City in the history of perfume since the 18th century and head of the International Superior Institute of Perfume (ISIPCA), Versailles is, today still, the place where the most famous perfumers of the world meet.
Thursday 25th of April 2013, thanks to François de Mazières initiative, deputy mayor of Versailles, former president of the City of Architecture and Heritage, the city of Versailles launched the Court of Scents.
It gathers in a same place the rarest fragrances, traditions, know-hows and raw materials that compose the universe of perfumes.
Located a 100 meters from the Palace, this free acess area benefits from an original concept conceived like a stroll of scents allowing you to discover the art of the perfume. The House of Perfumes is an interpretation place conceived by the architect Philippe Pumain. It opens on the Gardens of Scents, drawn by the landscaper-architect Nicolas Gilsoul, including curiosities cabinets to initiate you to the language and to the fetish materials of the perfumer, botanical collections discovery walks in the theatrical universe of fragrances.
Four big names of French luxury at the Heart of the Court of Scents:
GUERLAIN Since 1828, the creative audacity of Guerlain could be resumed in a few words: to make the art of beauty a real way of living, and to answer to modernity by creativity. The new Guerlain boutique will reveal a whole new concept that will involve the know-hows and history of the House to the crafts of art and creation.
Unique artistic works will echo with the radiance of Versailles. Thierry Wasser, Guerlain perfumer, gives a tribute to the Queen Marie-Antoinette whose favorite flower was jasmine, and dedicates her a perfume exclusively shown at the Court of Scents.
LENOTRE offers the latest salty and sugary creations of their chefs: chocolates, macarons, pasteries… that participate in the global reputation of the House. Treats to take away or to relish on the spot. Modern Institution of gastronomy, the Maison Lenotre, founded in 1957, incarnates throughout the world the elegance and the exactness of French luxury. It’s activities makes of the House an unavoidable actor in the works of gastronomy: the boutiques to offer the best of the catering cuisine, the organization of receptions and exceptional events to respond to an always challenging clientele, the know-how to teach and advise professionals as well as amateurs at the heart of the prestigious school Lenôtre.
DIPTYQUE presents an exclusive and delicate repertoire for the home, built like an ode to gardens and to beautiful raw materials. With a simple appearance, each fragrance is a sophisticated reinvention of nature. In the framework of its new boutique in Versailles, Diptyque offers exclusively a set of three small candles, in harmony with the Garden of Scents.
Visionary and passionate perfumer, Diptyque offers since 1961, original creations in order to satisfy the faithful initiates and enlightened amateurs, all over the world.
The perfumes for the House are marked with a distinctive and singular olfactory signature, forged with the most beautiful raw materials.

MAISON FABRE exposes its creations inspired of glover perfumers’ customs. For the opening of its new boutique in the Court of Scents, the Maison Fabre presents its first collection of perfumed gloves and leather goods. Glover in Millau since 1924, the Maison Fabre incarnates since four generations, French luxury.
Its refined editions, combining traditional know-how and truly modern style, attracts an international clientele. The Maison Fabre made the gloves for Grace Kelly and recently created twenty pairs for Nicole Kidman who plays the role of the princess of Monaco in Grace.
For all of those who wish to prolong this refined stroll, the Court of Scents and its Garden allows a new original urban walk that invites visitors to discover the oldest historical district of Versailles, its art craftsmen, the Royal Tennis Court and the King’s Kitchen Garden.
